Arrival:
Thursday, January 27, 2022 - 11:45am
Address:
30 block Sherman Terrace
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Several neighbors called 911 upon witnessing fire coming from a large delivery truck in their parking lot on Sherman Terrace. Engine Co. 3 was dispatched, and firefighters noted heavy, dark black smoke rising from the scene as they approached from several blocks away.

Upon arrival, Engine Co. 3 found a large appliance delivery truck backed into the parking lot with heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear cargo box of the truck. The fire was not threatening any nearby buildings or other vehicles.

Engine 3’s crew pulled a bumper line to the rear of the truck. Firefighters, donning full gear and self-contained breathing apparatus, stepped into the cargo area and took to the fire with direct attack. The fire was knocked down within a minute.

Evidence suggests the fire started inside the cargo area, though the exact cause of the fire was not determined. The fire was fueled by remnants of cardboard boxes stored inside. The cargo portion of the truck suffered significant damage. There was only minor damage to some old appliances inside the truck, which were already destined for disposal. Nobody was injured.
