Narrative:

A mother and her child waited in the front yard for firefighters to arrive after their oven caused a bit of trouble Friday.

She says they were pre-heating the oven to do some baking when she noticed there was a bright white light and small fire inside. Engine 13 went into the house and didn’t smell anything burning, but they did see some electrical arcing inside the appliance. There was light smoke contained inside the oven.

With no natural gas hooked up to the electric-only oven, firefighters unplugged the appliance and the arcing stopped immediately.  They kept the door closed to contain the smoke.

The homeowner was instructed to call a service person to have the oven repaired. Until then, the oven is considered a hazard and shouldn’t be used.
