Arrival:
Saturday, February 10, 2018 - 5:27pm
Address:
100 block N. Butler Street
Madison, WI 53703
Narrative:

The cries and whimpers of a stranded dog caught the attention of a passerby Saturday evening. She looked up to find a dog trapped on the roof of a house on the 100 block of N. Butler Street. She called 911, and Engine Company 1 was dispatched to rescue the dog.

When firefighters arrived just four minutes later, the dog had already jumped or fallen off the roof and had badly broken its leg. With no Animal Resource Officers immediately available, firefighters brought the dog aboard the fire engine and transported it to UW Veterinary School for emergency medical attention.

With the help of a neighbor, the crew was able to contact the dog's owner and inform them that the dog had been taken to the animal hospital. It's unknown how the dog got onto the roof in the first place.
