Arrival:
Saturday, May 9, 2015 - 2:49am
Address:
2500 block E Johnson St
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Engine 3 was dispatched to the above location for a car fire. The 911 Communications Center advised there were possibly two cars on fire. On location, one car was fully involved with heavy fire coming from the interior. As E3 was stretching a bumper line to put the car fire out, the company officer walked ahead of the car that was on fire to the west and saw another car on fire in the driveway, up against a detached garage. E3 requested a full fire response. An off-duty firefighter assisted with alerting the residents at this address and helping determine the extent of the fire. Upon Engine 1's arrival they stretched a 300' preconnect, put the car fire out and kept the fire from extending to the  garage. The fire did melt some insulation on the overhead garage door. Engine 3 also had a quick knockdown of their car fire, but had problems with gas leaking from the vehicle. Engine 3 applied foam and was eventually refilled with water by Engine 1. Medic 9 and Ladder 8 helped open cars up. E Johnson St. was briefly closed to traffic until firefighting operations were completed. Witnesses at the address said they were asleep and awaking to the car horn honking. They looked out the window and saw heavy fire coming from the interior of the car and the driver's side door ajar.
