Engine Co. 3 and other east side fire companies responded to the 2500 block of E. Dayton Street for reports of a structure fire just before 5:00 p.m. While en route, the crew could see black smoke rising from the area from several blocks away. Engine 3 secured a water source and knocked down the fire. Medic 8 performed search and rescue with assistance from Engine 1. No occupants or pets were found inside.

In addition to causing significant damage the primary home, the fire caused heat damage to two neighboring properties. Nobody was injured during the incident.
