Narrative: 

Residents at a 3 story, 45 unit apartment building were awoken early Monday morning to smoke filling their units. A resident from the 3rd floor called 911 shortly before 3:30 am after evacuating. Medic 5 and Engine 5 were the first crews on scene. The fire was predominantly on the exterior of the building but extended to apartments on each floor in close proximity to the fires location. Crews were able to minimize damage by holding extension in check.

The main body of the fire was extinguished by 4:05 am. Overhaul was needed in 6 units to confirm that the fire was completely extinguished. Loss stop was reported at 5:06 am.
All residents were safely evacuated. One resident was treated by medics on scene but released. No other injuries were reported. Residents of all six units were unable to stay in their apartments. They were able to retrieve some necessities and were being assisted by Red Cross.
The Fire Investigation Team responded and estimated that damages of at least $50,000. They determined that the cause of the fire was improperly discarded smoking materials.
