Address:
700 block Orion Drive
Madison, WI
Narrative:

An east side home suffered damage as a result of a dryer fire that broke out in the laundry room over the weekend. Nobody was injured, but three people were temporarily displaced.

Engine Co. 5 arrived on Orion Drive to find light black smoke coming from the front door of the residence. Everyone had evacuated the home safely. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire with a couple of water can extinguishers. The washer and dryer were removed so firefighters could confirm that fire did not extend into nearby walls and cabinetry.

Fire investigators believe the fire was possibly caused by an overloaded drum. The construction of the dryer ventilation duct work could have been a contributing factor.

The fire charred some elements of the laundry room and caused smoke damage throughout the house. The family was advised to find another place to stay for the night before a cleaning company could address the smoke damage. Damage is estimated at approximately $2000.
