Narrative:

One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after crashing into a construction crane on the west side.

The Madison Fire Department was dispatched to S. Gammon Road, near the Beltline Highway, where a vehicle was found crushed underneath a 50-ton construction crane on the side of the road. The car was situated under the body of the crane, between the its two tracks, when firefighter/paramedics and firefighter/EMTs arrived on scene. Madison Police assisted with scene safety and temporarily diverted traffic from Gammon Road while MFD crews attempted to gain access to the patient.

Ladder Co. 2 requested the assistance of a tow truck as they began to stabilize the scene. The tow truck arrived and pulled back the pinned vehicle, allowing MFD crews to access the driver who was trapped inside. The extensive damage to the vehicle posed significant challenges to firefighters working to extricate the patient from the car, but through their careful and deliberate efforts, Ladder 2, Engine 9, and Squad 9, were able to safely remove the patient from the vehicle and bring him to an ambulance.

Medic 7 transported the patient to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
