Downtown Smoke Scare Traced To Blown Power Line
Madison, WI 53703
Smoke reported at a downtown apartment complex was traced back to a power line failure in the neighborhood. There were no injuries resulting from the incident.
Ladder Company 1 and other crews arrived to 619 Langdon Street following reports of hazy smoke in the lobby and basement area. MGE also responded due to additional reports that a nearby manhole cover blew off in front of the building.
While Ladder 1 and Engine 1 investigated the structure for possible fire, MGE advised that a high voltage cable failed, which caused the manhole cover to blow off. The failure sent a small amount of smoke through the power line chase into the building. MGE stated there was no danger to the residents. Technicians remained on scene to repair the power line.
