Narrative:

A mulch fire discovered in the Town of Blooming Grove Wednesday night was put to rest by eastside firefighters, with assistance from the Cottage Grove Fire Department.

The Madison Fire Department received the call at 9:09 p.m. after a neighbor reported fire on the 3500 block of Meier Road. Crews were advised by responding Sheriff’s deputies that a 50-foot-tall pile of wood chips was burning.

Firefighters brought Brush 12 up to the property gate and gained access to the fire. Brush 12 knocked down the majority of the fire with its 150-gallon tank of water. Firefighters then grabbed a 200-foot preconnect line from Engine 5 to put out small ember fires still burning on the back side of the wood chip pile.

The Cottage Grove Fire Department responded with a Tender and an Engine to supply Madison Fire crews additional water. Their assistance was crucial in ensuring the fire could be contained and thoroughly extinguished as fire hydrants were not available nearby.
