Narrative:

The Madison Fire Department is investigating a fire that occurred at Kipp Corporation early Sunday morning. Firefighters were dispatched to the 2800 block of Atwood Avenue after on-site security noticed something amiss in the exhaust system of one of the kilns inside the facility.

Engine Co. 3 entered the facility to investigate. Ladder Co. 1 proceeded to the roof to check on fire reported at that location. Firefighters confirmed high flames present inside the kiln and penetrating the chimney. Some metal roofing adjacent to the chimney stack started on fire as well.

Firefighters worked closely with building maintenance to strategize the safest plan for fire attack. Engine Co. 3 established a safe zone around the chimney stack and the kiln was shut down. Engine 3 then pulled a hose line into the building and performed interior fire attack. Ladder 1 put out the remaining flames on the rooftop. Firefighters continued to monitor multiple hot spots in before confirming the fire was out. Nobody was injured during the incident.

The MFD Fire Investigation Team responded to the scene. The fire remains under investigation, and no damage estimates are available at this time.
