Narrative:

Engine 9 was dispatched for a structure fire response. On arrival, the homeowners were waiting outside. The homeowners stated that they turned the oven on to cook and discovered what looked like a fire in the broiler area of the oven. E9 proceeded to the kitchen area and found a light haze of smoke mixed with extinguisher dust on the first floor. E9 found the oven turned off. E9 found what looked to be a burned rag inside the oven that was extinguished with a ABC extinguisher. There was extinguisher dust all over the floor of the kitchen. E9 pulled the oven away from the wall and cabinets. E9 found no extension outside of the oven. The wall and surrounding cabinets showed no signs of heat. The oven interior had no damage from the fire and was cool to the touch. E9 set up the blower fan to ventilate the home. The homeowner stated that she had turned the oven on to cook. While preheating the oven, she noticed a slight smoke smell in the kitchen. She opened the oven door to find the burning rag inside. She grabbed an extinguisher from inside the home, and shot the extinguisher into the oven. Mrs. Meyer turned the oven off and then called 911. She stated that she never looked inside or checked the oven before turning it on. Fire was contained to oven with no extension or damage.
