While returning from another emergency call, Ladder Co. 8 noted a column of black smoke in the sky southwest of their fire station on Lien Road. The crew headed in that direction to investigate and reached out to the Dane County Public Safety Communications Center (911) to check whether any calls were received about a fire in the area. Just then a 911 call came in reporting fire behind the Amazon distribution facility on Milwaukee Street.

Ladder Co. 8 arrived on scene and found a fire approximately 500 yards from the road. Firefighters located an encampment with a trailer and active fire, plus a tent area that had already burned prior to their arrival.

With the assistance of Engine Co. 8, Ladder 8 extinguished and overhauled the fire. No bystanders were found. The MFD Fire Investigation Team responded to investigate the cause. No further updates are available at this time.
