Firefighters at Fire Station #5 on Cottage Grove Road were alerted to a smoking washer in a laundry mat located behind the fire house.

Around 4:00 pm on Thursday, October 6th, Firefighters responded to a report of a smoking washer by a citizen who stopped by the fire house. Firefighters found a burnt belt within the machine, which was immediately unplugged. No flames or other hazards were found.

The crew spoke to the owner and returned to the station waiting for the next call.
