Tuesday, July 12, 2022 - 10:51am
Arrival:
Tuesday, July 12, 2022 - 11:01am
Address:
5600 block Research Park Blvd.
Madison, WI
Narrative:

A laboratory on Research Park Boulevard was evacuated after a container holding a chemical known to be toxic and flammable became compromised, causing a leak and a hazardous situation.

Evacuation began as chemical vapors reportedly wafted through the hallways and to another floor via the building’s ventilation system. Upon their arrival to the facility operated by Mirus Bio, Ladder Co. 2 began to gather information, and they activated the building’s fire alarm to prompt a full and complete evacuation. The MFD Hazardous Incident Team (HIT) also was asked to respond.

The chemical leak was contained by on-site chemists prior to HIT’s entry into the building. The HIT’s entry team surveyed all levels of the building, as well as the lab where the leak occurred. The HIT isolated the areas where chemical leaks and spills had been identified. The building was then released back to on-site staff for proper cleanup.

No one in the facility reported any illness or injury resulting from the incident.
