Arrival:
Thursday, January 4, 2018 - 8:51am
Address:
300 block Lance Lane
Madison, WI 53703
Narrative:

A Lance Lane resident was in her living room of the house when her friend informed her there was smoke coming from the kitchen. They found a wicker bread basket on fire on top of the toaster. They placed the bread basket into the sink and put out the fire.

The fire destroyed the bread basket and left smoke stains on the underside of the kitchen cabinets and adjacent wall. There was no damage to the toaster itself, and no other fire extension occurred.

The occupant says nobody was using the toaster at the time of the fire, and she doesn’t know how the wicker basket went up in flames. Engine Company 5 checked the circuit breakers, which showed nothing tripped, and power was still available to the outlet. Firefighters were unable to verify the location of related and nearby power cords because items were moved around to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
