Address:
10 Madeline Island
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Crews from Fire Station 7 were dispatched to Madeline Way to check on an individual slumped in her vehicle, an incident that eventually led responders to Ondossagon Way after the same vehicle crashed through a home there.

While Medic 7 attempted to make contact with the driver of the vehicle, the car took off, in reverse, through residential yards and into a nearby house. Engine Company 7 stopped in front of the home where the car came to a rest in the rear wall of the house, and the patient had already let herself out of the vehicle by the time firefighter/EMTs were able to get to her.

Crews found three occupants inside the home, two of whom were small children, shaken and upset by the incident but thankfully unhurt.

Given that the vehicle drove through several yards and toppled a wooden play set, Engine Company 7 split its crew to check the area for any further victims or injuries, finding none. Medic 7 transported the driver of the vehicle to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, a City of Madison Building Inspector responded and determined the ceiling and a wall were no longer stable. The Madison Fire Department’s Heavy Urban Rescue Team was dispatched to shore up the home and provide stability to prevent collapse. MGE also responded to check on a furnace vent that was stripped away by the vehicle’s impact. Utilities to the home were shut down for safety.

Engine 7 and Ladder 7 guided the occupants through next steps, including what measures to take in order to make their house livable again. A tow truck was called to remove the vehicle from the home.
