Car Pulls Away From Gas Pump, Leading To A Fuel Spill
Madison, WI
Firefighters were called to the Mobil station on the 3800 block of East Washington Avenue after a gas nozzle was ripped from a fuel pump when a driver pulled away with the nozzle still propped inside their car.
Although the fuel spill-prevention system within the line worked as designed, the angle at which the fuel line came to a rest allowed gasoline to flow at a steady drip.
Engine Company 8 arrived just after 5:00 PM and adjusted the flow device, putting a stop to the fuel spill. They spread an absorbent powder known as Oil Dry over the spilled fuel, and the area was blocked off from further traffic.
Gas station staff said they’d call a service technician to repair the fuel line, and firefighters cleared the scene once the hazardous area was deemed safe.
