Address:
Idledale Circle
Madison, WI
Narrative:

For one family on Idledale Circle, enjoying a cozy evening by the fireplace is not unusual. But they were a bit surprised when a number of fire trucks approached their home and firefighters from Ladder 7 knocked on their door Tuesday evening.

The Madison Fire Department was dispatched after a concerned neighbor saw sparks and flames coming from the chimney.

The homeowners were unaware of any issues but told firefighters they had been feeding pine boughs into the fireplace, likely the source of the wayward embers.

The fire was put out and ashes were removed from the fireplace so firefighters could take a closer look at the chimney. The crew checked the home interior, the exterior areas around the chimney, and climbed onto the roof inspecting for possible fire.

No persisting problems or fire hazards inside the chimney were found, confirming suspicions that the burning boughs were to blame. The family was able to resume their quiet evening as firefighters left around 7:10 p.m.
