Arrival:
Sunday, October 2, 2016 - 5:27pm
Address:
200 block Langdon Street
Madison, WI 53703
Narrative:

The Madison Fire Department was called to a cooking fire at a Langdon Street apartment Sunday evening. No flames or smoke were showing outside as firefighters arrived, and residents were not evacuating the building.

Ladder Company 8 went inside and found a light haze of smoke in the hallway. They approached the apartment where the fire was reported to be just as the tenant came out of the apartment with a fire extinguisher in hand. She explained she was trying to fry some food when a fire ignited on the stove.

Smoke was still banked down to the floor in the apartment, so she was asked to step outside. Ladder 8 closed the apartment door and masked up in the hallway before entering the unit. Meanwhile, the rest of the building was evacuated.

There was no active fire when firefighters stepped inside the apartment, and they used a thermal imaging camera to confirm there was no fire extension into area furnishings. Crews cleared the apartment of the heavy smoke. The cabinets showed light charring, and there are smoke stains on the walls and ceiling in the kitchen.

The occupant elected to stay with friends or family overnight.
