Alarm Sends Engine 1 To UW-Madison Dormitory
Incident Type:
Alarm Investigation
Dispatch:
Friday, April 29, 2016 - 5:32am
Address:
900 block University Ave.
Madison, WI
Madison, WI
Narrative:
Students at Barnard Hall on the UW-Madison campus got a wakeup call from Madison firefighters Friday morning after an alarm activated around 5:30.
Residents were standing outside when Engine 1 arrived. The alarm panel indicated that several smoke detectors activated on the fourth floor. Firefighters headed that way and detected the smell of burned food.
With a master key from UW building maintenance, the crew went room to room to find the source. They ultimately happened upon a burned bagel inside a microwave in one of the dorm rooms.
No ventilation was needed, and UW maintenance reset the alarm system so students could return inside—and maybe catch just a few more zzzs.
