A microwave fire in a west side apartment was likely the result of an accidental activation of a stovetop burner.

Engine Co. 12 responded to the 8200 block of Highview Drive for reports that a microwave started on fire on top of a stove. The occupant on scene was able to extinguish the fire using an extinguisher available in the common hallway of the building. Firefighters confirmed the fire was out upon entering the unit. Ladder Co. 2 ventilated the apartment and adjacent hallway to clear away the smoke.

The occupant stated she placed the microwave on the stove to clean it and must have accidentally turned on the glass stovetop burner. The small fire resulted in minor damage to the bottom of the microwave. Nobody was injured.
