8-Year-Old Calls 911 After Uncle Becomes Unresponsive Behind the Wheel
Madison, WI 53715
An 8-year-old passenger of a vehicle traveling westbound on the Interstate, near the Beltline, dialed 911 when the car her uncle was driving swiped a guardrail and came to a stop on an off-ramp. The girl told dispatchers her uncle was not moving.
When Medic 8 arrived on scene, the driver was standing outside the vehicle with Wisconsin State Patrol. Although he was alert and oriented, he was not answering questions appropriately. Shortly after he was assisted into the ambulance, he became unresponsive. Paramedics administered Narcan, and eventually he became responsive once again.
The young passenger was not injured in the crash. Paramedics assessed the driver, who also denied any injuries, and even denied being in a crash. Both were taken to the hospital, where the 8-year-old was placed in the care of her mother.
