Event Postponed - See March 3rd press release

There is no longer a need to carry a pocket full of change or risk a parking citation. The City of Madison Parking Utility announced today a start-up date for the new multi-space parking meters. Members of the press and public are invited to join Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, business leaders and others at the official opening on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 10 AM, at the Buckeye Parking Lot near the corner of State and Gorham Streets.

This event follows nearly two years of research, demonstrations, surveys, presentations and contract negotiations. All meters will take coins or credit cards. These machines will operate on a pay-by-space principle (like Milwaukee), and will be mostly solar powered. In a pay-by-space operation, the customer enters their parking space number, pays with coin/credit card and takes a receipt that has the meter expiration time recorded on it. There is no need to display this receipt on your dashboard.
