Meters Allow Customers to Pay by Credit Card

Mayor Dave Cieslewicz joined Alder Mike Verveer, Madison's Central Business Improvement District and Downtown Madison Incorporated to launch the city's new multi-space parking meters.

The new meters will allow customers to pay by credit card, debit card or coins.

"These new meters will improve convenience and ease for visitors to our downtown," Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said. "Because of their popularity, I've included funding for more multi-space meters in my 2011 capital budget."

Two multi-space meters at the Buckeye Lot will replace 54 single pole meters. Thirteen additional multi space meters will be put into service at a later date. The Parking Utility has purchased 100 multi space meters that will eventually replace a majority of our downtown meters.

More information about the new meters is available on the Parking Utility's website: http://www.cityofmadison.com/parking-utility/. As the new meters are implemented, the Utility plans to have employees on hand to help customers during the busiest times of the day.
