As we celebrate 125 years of our amazing Madison parks, we are excited to commemorate the legacy of our public spaces with a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome a new all-inclusive playground into our park system.  The community is invited to join Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, Alder Barbara Harrington-McKinney, the City of Madison Department of Civil Rights, Madison Parks and the Madison Parks Foundation in a ribbon cutting at Elver Park at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 12, 2019. Immediately following the ceremony we will unveil the new art sculpture, Momental, by Jeff Repko.

“It is through the power of cooperation and collaboration between municipal entities and the private sector that we can improve and advance our public spaces,” said Bob Hemauer, Board Vice President of the Madison Parks Foundation.

The new playground area, made possible with donations from the Evjue Foundation and the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation features a poured-in-place rubber surfacing, partial fence enclosure, surrounding concrete path, retaining wall and four benches. Unique features of the nautically themed playground include a drawbridge-like entryway from the parking lot, a ribbon of blue flowing through the surfacing with alligator steppers swimming inside and an inclusive rocking ship with porthole openings for climbing in and out or keeping watch. Highlighting the City’s commitment to promoting equality for all, the new playground demonstrates the importance of inclusion for Madison’s youth.
