UPDATE: Raising the roof at Blackhawk Water Tower has been pushed to Thursday, May 10, likely around noon.
A large crane will lift ten 6,000-pound sections of steel roof plates about 150 feet in the air to the top of the tower. Crews on the tower will assemble the roof section by section. Placing the entire roof will take about two hours.

Tomorrow crews will be slowly lifting a 138-ton steel tank into place at the new Blackhawk Water Tower near the corner of Old Sauk and Pioneer roads. It will take about 3 hours for a jack system to push the million-gallon tank to the top of the tower.

Tank raising will begin at around 1:30 p.m. and can be viewed from nearby Pope Farm Conservancy or the Town of Middleton Town Hall (media and spectators will not be allowed on the actual construction site). The tank should be in place by around 4:30 p.m.

Then on Wednesday afternoon at around 3:00 p.m., a large crane will lift the steel roof 150 feet into place at the top of the tower.

Blackhawk Water Tower is a $3.6 million infrastructure project to bring more water and better fire protection to Madison’s far west side. The million-gallon reservoir and supporting water mains should be complete and in service this fall.
