Join us for a poetry exhibition in honor of National Poetry Month, entitled Poet Fabu in Wisconsin, in the Municipal Building Gallery, 210 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, from April 1-May 31.  Original poems by Fabu are framed in various sizes to enable people to connect with words in more intimate ways.  The title reflects Fabu as a poet in Wisconsin being both highly visible as an African American woman, yet often completely invisible as a literary artist.   

There is an opening program on Friday, April 4 from Noon until 1 p.m., with Fabu, poets and singers to celebrate poetry and commemorate the anniversary of the death of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee.   A reception follows.  This exhibition is free, open to the public and sponsored by the City of Madison Multicultural Affairs Committee.   
 
Also In celebration of National Poetry Month, there is an April 6 Poetry Reading at 2 pm, room 301, at the Central Library in partnership with the exhibition.  Please join Fabu and poets Araceli Esparza, Sarah Hatchett, Eileen Cecile, Jolieth McIntosh, Oscar Mireles, Fran Rall, Richard Roe, Nydia Rojas, Foluke Salami, middle school student, Wendy Vardaman, current Madison Poet Laureate, Rakina A. White and invited others in the multi-ethnic and multi-generational celebration.  An open mic follows for this family friendly event.  This event is sponsored by Madison Public Library. 

Fabu is fresh off a successful Overture event celebrating her new poetry manuscript, Remember Me with Mary Lou Williams in Poetry, in October, 2013 to a standing room only crowd.  During her tenure as Madison Poet Laureate (2008-11), Fabu was Artistic Co-Director of Madison’s Mary Lou Williams Centennial Celebration, a series of 52 programs in a variety of artistic genres that reached over 8,000 people during 2010.   Fabu followed this highly successful celebration with research into the life of Mary Lou Williams with a fellowship grant from Madison’s Mary Lou Williams Centennial Committee.
