The City of Madison is set to experience warming temperatures and rain in the coming days, but many of our storm sewer inlets are still blocked with snow and ice.  The City of Madison Engineering Division has been hard at work clearing these inlets, but there are so many in the city, their staff would not be able to clear them all.  Therefore, if residents are able help clean out storm sewer inlets, especially in low lying areas and intersections, it will help prevent the rain and snow melt from ponding around these blocked inlets.

As we are still only in January, the likelihood of below freezing temperatures returning is fairly high.  These areas of standing water would then freeze when temperatures drop, which could create hazards for walkers and all roadway users.  If residents can safely clear the inlets near their home, this assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions regarding clearing the inlet near your home, please contact the Engineering Department at 608-266-4430.
