Beginning 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 12th, Speedway Sand & Gravel will close the outbound lanes of Monroe Street between Regent Street and Odana Road in order to begin the reconstruction of Monroe Street.  Only one eastbound (inbound toward downtown) lane will be open.  This configuration will last until November 2018. 
Also, starting at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 12th:

  • The southbound lane of South Breese Terrace between Regent Street and Monroe Street will be closed.  This will last for the duration of the project.  The northbound lane of South Breese Terrace between Regent Street and Monroe Street will close on Monday, March 19th and remain closed for the duration of the project.
  • Oakland Avenue will be closed at Monroe Street for approximately the next two months.  During this time, the block of Oakland Avenue between Monroe Street and Madison Street will be closed to thru traffic.   
  • Knickerbocker Street will be closed at Monroe Street.  No turns will be allowed from Monroe Street to Knickerbocker Street and vice versa.  This closure will last approximately three weeks. 

Eastbound Metro Transit routes will be maintained with bus stops at Glenway Street, Commonwealth Avenue, Arbor Drive, Leonard Street, Grant Street and Regent Street.  Detour routes and more information:  http://www.cityofmadison.com/metro/monroe/index.cfm 

The Southwest Commuter Path will remain open at all times, and sidewalk will remain open at all times along Monroe Street on at least one side of the street. 

Crazylegs Lane has been permanently closed as of Wednesday, March 7th, to create a new public space. 

The Monroe Street reconstruction project and the outbound lane closures of Monroe Street will last until November 2018.
