Four programs will illuminate and honor African American history

From the trials of a man on the space shuttle Challenger to the courage of a man sentenced to life in prison, Madison Public Library and friends present a weekend filled with stories of African American history, from Friday, February 21st through the afternoon of Saturday, February 22nd at the Goodman South Madison Library at 2222 S. Park Street. With a variety of theatre productions and discussions about various topics including courage, fear, hurt and perseverance, these events are sure to inspire everyone who attends.

“Black Eagle” - Mixed Blood Theatre Company presents the story of Dr. Ronald McNair, an African American scientist who, despite living a life in segregated Carolina, is a member of an elite space program. In Warm Blood: Prison, Privilege, Hurt and Heart book reading and conversation – On Saturday Feb. 22nd at 10:00am In Warm Blood co-author Judith Adrian will lead  a community conversation about the consequences of imprisonment. Co-author DarRen Morris' acrylic paintings are on display at Goodman South Madison Library for the months of January and February. Morris is currently serving a life sentence with the first possibility of parole being in 100 years in the Wisconsin prison system. “Dr. King’s Dream” – Mixed Blood Theatre Company presents the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. drawing from his inspirational letters, sermons and speeches. The production runs from 1:00pm to 2:15pm Saturday Feb. 22nd.
 
“Buffalo Soldiers: The Legacy” – Produced by Kojo Productions, Inc, “Buffalo Soldiers: The Legacy” presents a story surrounding post-slavery America and the events that occur when former slaves turned soldiers encounter the Apache Indians of the Southwest, events that are now referred to as “The Indian Wars.” Join us Feb. 22nd 3:00pm to 4:45pm to experience this extraordinary story.
