Course Description

This course will teach you the basics needed to spot a severe weather storm. Attending this program will help assist the City of Madison and surrounding communities with early storm identification, earlier warnings, and increase the potential to save lives. The course will cover the following objectives:

  • Obtaining information and knowing if severe weather is going to be possible.
  • Learning National Weather Service (NWS) terminology related to storm watches vs. warnings and other NWS forecasts.
  • Knowing when it is important to look/spot storms.
  • Knowing what hazards arise during storms and how to avoid these hazards.
  • How to report severe weather information and why it is important.
