One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after falling approximately 8 feet into a maintenance tunnel typically covered by grates.

Medic 5 and Engine Co. 9 responded to the 3800 block of Regent Street and located the patient lying supine in the opening, located just inside a building entrance. The area had been cordoned off due to ongoing construction work. Two firefighters lowered themselves down to the patient, secured the patient to a backboard, and lifted them out.

Paramedics took over emergency medical care and transported the patient to a local emergency room.
