Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Boss Lift
posted
I had a unique opportunity last week to participate in the ESGR Boss Lift. This program is sponsored by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve which is a volunteer organization of the Department of Defense comprised of 4,900 members nationwide. It seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve units in the United States.
The ESGR advocates for mutually beneficial initiatives between employers and service members, recognizes outstanding employer support, informs participants about their rights under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, and mediates employer/employee relationships.
The City of Madison Fire Department has been a strong supporter of our military forces for many years. I was nominated to take part in the Boss Lift this year as a “thank you” for the strong support of our military forces.
I, along with five other “bosses” from the Madison area, were picked up at Truax Field and flown on a Blackhawk helicopter to Fort McCoy for the day. We enjoyed a great flight there and back, along with a behind-the-scenes tour of Fort McCoy where we watched guard members train. They are definitely committed to keeping our country safe, whether abroad or right here at home.
I am thankful for their selfless service to our country.
