:  Stroll through the history of jazz with saxophonist Hanah Jon Taylor and poet Fabu as they intertwine jazz poetry with musical numbers performed by Taylor. This interactive program will emphasize the music and culture of the Harlem Renaissance, with commentary by Ethelene Whitmire, author of Regina Anderson Andrews, Harlem Renaissance Librarian. Hanah Jon Taylor is a preeminent saxophonist and flutist and has been a leading catalyst, organizer and arts educator throughout his 30-year career. Taylor currently serves as lead instructor for "Live Soundz on Saturday," a jazz education program partnership between the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium and the Goodman Community Center. Dr. Ethelene Whitmire is an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin – Madison’s School of Library and Information Studies. Her new biography, Regina Anderson Andrews, Harlem Renaissance Librarian, was recently awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Publishing Citation from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association. Fabu Carter holds the distinction of being the first African American Madison Poet Laureate (2008-2012) as well as a columnist, storyteller and educator. Fabu is the author of three books - Poems, Dreams and Roses, In Our Own Tongues and Journey to Wisconsin: African American Life in Haiku - and the forthcoming Remember Me: Mary Lou Williams in Poetry. Jazz at the Library celebrates Jazz Appreciation Month and National Poetry Month with a series of musical and literary performances in Dane County Libraries in April and May. Jazz at the Library is funded through grants from Beyond the Page, the National Endowment for the Humanities, Madison Community Foundation, and Dane Arts, with additional support from the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium and Madison Public Library.
