Date & Time:
Saturday, June 1, 2019 - 3:30pm to 4:15pm
Location(s):

The Madison Arts Commission, The Downtown Coordinating Committee, and the Downtown Business Improvement District invite you to attend the dedication of Madison’s newest piece of large-scale public art in the 700/800 block of State Street, where State Street intersects with East Campus Mall and Library Mall.

Artist Team David Dahlquist and Matt Niebuhr of RDG Dahlquist Studios created, Both/And – Tolerance/Innovation to represent what they describe as “a space between knowing and believing.” Please come join us in experiencing the artwork installed at this confluence between University and the Campus, and celebrate this piece as a signifier of that space between knowing and believing where civility, moderation, critical thinking, and the boundless creative energy inspired from encountering new, different, and contrasting ideas flourishes.

Both/And – Tolerance/Innovation was selected by the Madison Arts Commission and members of the Downtown Coordinating Committee as part of the State Street Reconstruction Project. The Madison Arts Commission MAC is charged with developing municipal art projects. Their mission is to fund artistic activities and initiate cultural programs that integrate, support, and advance arts and culture as an essential part of life in Madison. The Downtown Coordinating Committee provides a forum for public information and stewardship regarding the uses of public space in the Downtown Area.
