Class of 1918 Marsh with John Magnuson ~ Take an easy family-friendly educational walk with John Magnuson, Professor Emeritus with UW Center for Limnology. Along the way, you will learn about the Class of 1918 Marsh, the historic wetland area between the Picnic Point entrance and UW Hospital. A walking trail circles the marsh and there is a small boardwalk with a nice lookout to view the pond beyond the cattails. This area has some wonderful wetland features that support a variety of birds, wildlife and native plants.  It also has some unique water quality and ecological challenges located at the heart of a busy UW campus, such as salt runoff. What are some of the visions for restoring and sustaining this urban wetland gem as part of the UW Lakeshore Nature Preserve?

Join a naturalist for a family-friendly nature walk starting at Picnic Point to discover the UW Lakeshore Nature Preserve including historic woodlands, native mounds, restored Biocore Prairie and beautiful Lake Mendota shoreline. Walks at UW Lakeshore Nature Preserve the 4th Sunday every month are co-sponsored by Madison Bird City FUN partners Friends of the Lakeshore Nature Preserve and Madison Audubon Society.
