Blood Pressure Screening

Tuesdays, 11 AM - 12 PM, Every Other Week,  
An trained EMT will be at the Senior Center every other Tuesday to do blood pressure checks.

Ballroom Basics for Balance (BB4B)

Don’t let the name fool you! We also do line dances, salsa, tango, tap, meringue, rumba, Chicago Steppin’ and more. This class is for you if you want to get better at walking or moving around on various surfaces and in various environments, both inside and outside. A completed Registration Form and payment in advance is REQUIRED to attend, and to have a spot held for you. Please send a check to Madison Senior Center, 330 West Mifflin St, Madison, WI 53703. Credit card payment can be done over the phone or in person. Cash payment can be made in person. If you need a scholarship email Laura at lhunt@cityofmadison.com. Ballroom Basics for Balance – Next Steps”

BB4B ‘Next Steps’ is a class for those who have taken BB4B in the past and/or are independent in moving around. We’ll challenge you even more, and have even more fun working on our balance with dance! We will still focus on your goals of getting better at walking or moving around on various surfaces and in various environments, both inside and outside.  Offered in the summer months only. Our focus in the fall will be “Dances that began in the U.S. such as Jazz, Tap, Salsa, Charleston & more! Our class is a welcoming Friday morning community that you can join from anywhere via Zoom. We have seated and standing variations, so you can dance as you recover from an injury or manage a chronic illness. Each week we explore a balance tip like mindful movement, safe ways to get up and down from the floor, or winter safety along with dancing! Please check with your doctor or therapist to see if a balance class would be right for you. Beginners and continuing students welcome. Class is $85 for 12 weeks. Financial Assistance is available.

Cardio Dancing for 55+

Fridays 9:30 - 10:15 am  

Start out the weekend with an energizing cardio class that will get the blood pumping. This class is for you if you can move around freely without assistance, and would enjoy a class that recreates the dance moves to songs you love at an easily modified intensity to fit your comfort range. The class introduces easy-to-follow choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Come ready to sweat, and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong. Develop and improve cardiovascular health, muscle conditioning, flexibility and balance! Register once and then come whenever you can.   


Gentle Yoga

Tuesdays, 10:00 – 11:00 am
Do you want to improve your balance, range of motion and flexibility? Do you want to strengthen your bones and muscles, quiet your mind? Then GENTLE YOGA is for YOU! All abilities and levels welcome. We will do a combination of seated and standing positions, and will always suggest modifications if a pose isn’t working for you. Yoga Accessible for All (YAFA) provides all instruction, and teachers usually work in teams to best serve the participants who need modifications. Please register.


Gentle Exercise - HASfit

Monday -  Friday; 9:00 am - 9:30 am

Exercise together by watching the HASfit exercise program on YouTube using our TV. The Senior Exercise segments focus on strength, flexibility and balance. Small hand weights are available if you wish to make it more challenging. Everyone welcome! 
 

Laughing Bodies, Dancing Minds

Offered January - May

Come on down to the Madison Senior Center for a movement class with the remarkable Li Chiao-Ping. Her classes focus on warm-up techniques, strength and stretching exercises, core work, breathing and energy flow. No prior dance experience needed.

Li Chiao-Ping is the Sally Banes Professor of Dance & Vilas Research Professor with the UW-Madison Dance Department. She is also the Artistic Director of Li Chiao-Ping Dance. She has a special interest in working with older adults and demonstrating that dance is beautiful and rewarding at any age.  

Maintaining strong cognitive and physical function is essential to healthy aging.
