Last Updated: 07/11/2019
Replacement of the playground at Doncaster Park has begun!
Parks Construction staff have removed the old playground equipment in anticipation of Contractor Madison Commercial Landscapes starting work at the site the week of 6.24.2019.
Please contact Project Manager Kate Kane at (608) 261-9671 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to provide input on the project but were unable to attend these meetings or have other questions.
Parks issued the '2019 Playgrounds - Group 1' (8391) contract in late February for a 2-week period.
At the bid opening held 4/4/2019, the only bid received was determined to be "non-responsive" due to the omission of a bid bond item. As such, the contract was rebid beginning 4/11/2019 and was opened/awarded 4/25/2019 to Madison Commercial Landscapes, Inc. who submitted the only bid received for $275,998.00
Prior to bid of the contract a public input/meetings process was held to determine the manufacturer, age range and color scheme for the new equiopment. That process is detailed, below.
The first opportunity for input from the neighborhood on the design of the playground was at the Playgrounds - Group 1 Workshop held on 10/18/2018; materials from that session can be found in the links, below.
A follow-up meeting to review & vote on the specific equipment & colors for the playground was held on 11/15/2018. More information from this meeting is below.
2019 Playgrounds - Group 1 Workshop 2
was held on Thursday, November 15 at 6PM - Thoreau Elementary School (3870 Nakoma Rd)
Attendees at this meeting chose wood mulch as a surfacing material and confirmed a color scheme for the play equipment. Two further options were discussed for the play equipment components and Parks gathered feedback regarding their designs, with a clear preference noted for option 2 with the Spinami feature.
2019 Playgrounds - Group 1 Workshop
was held Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 6PM - Sequoya Library (4340 Tokay Blvd)
At this session the replacement of the existing equipment, surfacing and benches were discussed during the break-out/table session with Parks staff. Attendees at the session learned that all of the equipment, surfacing, and benches will be replaced with the project. Attendees cast the majority vote for 5-12 age range equipment and Little Tykes as the manufacturer to develop two proposals for the follow-up meeting in late 2018. Attendees were evenly split on the new surfacing material, either rubber chip or wood mulch. An accessible path will be added connecting the playground to the existing sidewalk along Doncaster Drive.
