Council President Keith Furman received two (2) resumes from former elected officials to fill the Alder District 12 vacancy by the 4:30pm deadline on January 6, 2023. None of the applicants are running for a full term in the Spring 2023 election.

The following individuals will be invited to participate in the interview process to serve District 12 until April 18, 2023. They are all residents of District 12:

1. Dorothy Borchardt, Former City of Madison Alder (1993-2003)
2. Barbara Vedder, Former City of Madison Alder (1995-2001), Former Dane County Supervisor (2006-2010)

The Common Council Executive Committee (CCEC) will interview applicants at their regularly scheduled meeting at 5:30pm on Wednesday, January 11th, 2023. The committee will have the option to recommend an applicant or recommend the seat remain vacant until April. The Common Council may appoint an interim alder at its January 17th meeting who will serve until April 18, 2023.
