Members of the Madison Common Council last year approved a resolution to create a special task force on city governance to examine and make recommendations on elected officials; the structure and powers of the Common Council and its committees and the structure and powers of the Mayor's office.

Mayor Soglin and Council President Marsha Rummel have collaborated to form the eleven-member group, which holds its first meeting Thursday evening. The meeting will be held at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center, 1625 Northport Drive, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

The size and diversity of Madison’s population has increased over the past three decades and these changes have resulted in new challenges and opportunities for the City. City officials have not established a formal committee to examine and report on the best structure of City government since the 1980’s.

This newly appointed task force will hold public hearings, actively solicit public input, obtain written reports, conduct research, and provide a written report to the Common Council and Mayor in early 2019.

All meetings of the task force are open to the public.
