A national school walkout is planned to take place Wednesday, March 14.

In Madison, students are expected to meet at Madison East High School around 11:00 a.m. and beginning walking to the Capitol around noon.  Due to the large expected crowd size, multiple lanes of westbound East Washington Avenue will likely need to be closed.  Severe westbound East Washington Avenue traffic impacts are expected from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  Drivers should use alternate routes at that time.

In addition, UW students are planning to stage at Library Mall (800 State Street) and walk on State Street, to the rally at the Capitol at noon.  Traffic delays on Gorham Street and West Johnson Street are expected due to this protest.

The size of the crowd at the Capitol may necessitate closing the streets of the Capitol Square.

The event is expected to end and streets opened by 3:00 p.m.
