Funds raised benefit Beyond the Page humanities programming in Dane County libraries

Celebrate Father’s Day at Rock & Read, a Father’s Day Family Fundraiser hosted by the Madison Public Library Foundation.  Rock & Read is Sunday, June 15, 2-5 pm at Capital Brewery, 7734 Terrace Avenue in Middleton.

Bring the whole family for an afternoon of family friendly music featuring Yid Vicious and other local musicians.  Activities include book bag screenprinting, summer reading club registration, a cake walk, and Daddy Door Prizes.  Pizza, soda and beer will be available for purchase at the event.  A $5 donation is suggested.

Funds raised at the event will benefit Beyond the Page, a joint effort of the Dane County Library Service and Madison Community Foundation to create a permanent endowment that will support humanities programming in all 28 public libraries in Dane County – forever. The Beyond the Page campaign received a $350,000 challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This collaboration is the first of its kind in the nation. The challenge grant requires that for every $1 from the NEH, $3 in community dollars must be raised.

“We’re close to our match goal for Beyond the Page,” said Madison Public Library Foundation Executive Director Jenni Collins.  “Rock & Read will help us finalize our match requirement from the National Endowment for the Humanities and further this unique opportunity to support cultural programming happening in public libraries in Madison and throughout Dane County.”

Event sponsors include Capital Brewery, Friends of Lakeview Library, Roman Candle Pizzeria, Wisconsin Public Radio, and Yahara Music Library.  The Friends of Sequoya Library will match donations to the event up to $1500, and the Friends of Lakeview Library have pledged to donate their June book sale proceeds to the event.  That sale takes place at the Lakeview Library, June 20 (6-8 pm) and June 21 (9 am – 4 pm)
