A section of a popular bike path is scheduled to be temporarily closed starting June 3 for resurfacing work to improve pavement conditions. The Capital City Bike Path, between Jackson Street and the Goodman Community Center will be closed for up to two weeks.

The resurfacing will impact about a half mile of the Capital City Path, also known as the Capital City State Trail. The overall path is a link around and through Madison between the Military Ridge State Trail and eventually the Glacial Drumlin State Trail. The Capital City Bike Path is 17 miles long, and the half-mile segment being resurfaced is part of a well-traveled route that serves as a primary commuter route for many east side residents.

There will be a marked detour along St. Paul Avenue and Waubesa Street while construction takes place.

The project includes two phases of work:

  • Phase 1 will resurface the path from Jackson Street to just west of the S Marquette Street cul-de-sac.
  • Phase 2 will resurface the path that connects the main Capital City Path with Wirth Court Park.
