A public meeting will be held on Thursday, March 22 to receive input from the public on the future of Regent Street and the South Campus neighborhood. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Neighborhood House Community Center, 29 S. Mills Street. Business and property owners, residents, and others with and interest in this area are encouraged to attend and participate in discussions on topics such as: Urban Design and Land Use, Business Mix and Climate, Traffic and Transportation, and Quality of Life.

The City of Madison has recently initiated a process to develop a neighborhood plan to guide the future of the Regent Street - South Campus area. The process, scheduled to last through August, covers the area generally bounded by Monroe St., Randall Ave., Johnson St., Murray St., and Regent St. (both sides). A Steering Committee has been appointed to guide this effort, and a team of planners and architects has been hired to develop this plan and coordinate the public input process.

The goal of this effort is to establish a clear set of land use policies to guide redevelopment, preservation, and other activities within the area in a comprehensive manner. The project will focus primarily on land use and physical design issues, including developing a set of design guidelines to that will address, at a minimum: allowable residential densities, building heights, scale, and massing. Other issues will also be addressed, including transportation issues (especially pedestrian, bicycle, and transit modes, and automobile parking), parks and open space, and creating a vibrant business district.

This effort is being funded through $20,000 from the City of Madison, $20,000 from Dane County's BUILD Program, $15,000 from the UW-Madison, and approximately $20,000 from other donors.
