The National Weather Service forecast for this weekend calls for warmer temperatures and rain. On Saturday temperatures will climb into the high-30s with rain expected to start around noon and continue into the evening. Widespread flooding is not expected but low lying areas where water cannot reach an open storm inlet may experience localized flooding.

This past week Engineering crews have been working on opening storm inlets to minimize the potential for localized flooding. Residents are reminded that there are more than 20,000 inlets in the City’s storm sewer system and that City crews along cannot open all of them. 

"Although Mother Nature doesn’t seem to be giving us a break, we do have the City infrastructure to handle the upcoming rains. We still need the help of residents, so the water can reach those storm drains though,” said Mayor Paul Soglin. “Let’s work together to make a concerted effort to help City staff and clear the storm drains inlets in your neighborhood.”

Engineering crews will be on-duty throughout the weekend to continue opening inlets. These crews will also be available to respond to calls for flooded roads, if necessary. Citizens can contact Engineering Operations at 608-266-4430 to report flooded roads and/or intersections.

Next week’s daytime temperatures are expected to be above freezing. With no additional rain forecast until Wednesday Mother Nature should assist in melting snow and opening inlets.
