The City of Madison, in partnership with the City of Verona and Dane County is holding a public hearing to discuss the design and environmental aspects of proposed improvements on County Highway M in Dane County, between Cross Country Road and Prairie Hill Road.
 
The public hearing is planned for Monday October 10, 2016 at the Madison Municipal Building, 215 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Madison, WI, 53703.  The hearing will be held in room 300. The public hearing will be conducted from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Interested persons are urged to attend to ask questions and provide testimony.

The proposed improvement of County Highway M is a reconstruction of the existing rural highway to an urban roadway with four (4) to six (6) vehicular travel lanes, two (2) on-road bike lanes, curb and gutter, sidewalk, multi-use path, street lighting, and a curbed, grassed median. A bridge is proposed at the intersection of County Highway M and County Highway PD to carry westbound traffic on County Highway PD below County Highway M and improve the operational efficiency of the proposed signalized intersection.  The proposed project will also include construction of underpass structures to carry bicycle and pedestrian traffic on the multi-use path system below the intersection of County Highway M and County Highway PD and below the intersection of County Highway M and Midtown Road.  Another proposed underpass will provide a crossing of County Highway M near Flagstone Drive for the Ice Age Junction Path and Ice Age National Scenic Trail. The proposed improvement will require the acquisition of approximately 24.8 acres of real estate for highway right-of-way and 26.1 acres of temporary easement for grading and construction.  The proposed improvements will disturb an estimated 1.4 acres of wetland area. 

The public is encouraged to attend the public hearing to learn more about the proposed improvements and provide input. Project maps and other information will be on display and WisDOT staff will be available to explain the proposed improvements and answer questions. Information on how to present verbal and written testimony will be provided at the public hearing.
