Come celebrate the installation of Marcia Yapp's mosaic mural "Passing Through Time"

The Madison Arts Commission and the Monroe Street Merchants Association invite you to come celebrate the completion of Passing Through Time (2018), by Marcia Yapp on Saturday, September 22 at noon, during the Monroe Street Merchants Association’s 41st Annual Monroe Street Festival.

Yapp’s large-scale mosaic wall winds along the Southwest Commuter Path as it parallels Regent Street between Breese Terrace and Monroe Street across from Camp Randall Stadium.

The newly reconstructed plaza, which hosts a bus shelter, bike path, drinking fountain, and gathering spaces, still awaits installation of the Badger sculpture by Harry Whitehorse, which is currently being cast at Vanguard Sculpture in Milwaukee. The Badger, was conceptualized as a family-friendly work and intended to engage people of all ages. It will be cast in durable bronze, and will be secured on the already installed foundation above the rubberized surface placed there for safer interaction. We anticipate that the Badger will be cast this winter, and will be installed sometime in the spring or summer of 2019.*

Other artistic components of the Monroe Street reconstruction include Poetry on Sidewalks, Art on Utility Boxes (by Michael Velliquette, Sandra Klingbeil, Nate Koehler, Paul McMahon, and Helen Klebesadel), and another major mosaic work by Marcia Yapp which will be integrated into panels at the entryway of Wingra Park, along with the sculpture, Anchorlily by William Turnbull.

Come meet the artist, and enjoy cake from Bloom Bake Shop, sponsored by HotelRED, and “energii bites” from Monroe Street’s new Freshii restaurant. We hope you will also plan to explore the Monroe Street Festival’s music performances and other fun events!

Location for the art reception: Plaza between Monroe, Regent, and Breese. Rain location: lobby of HotelRED at 1501 Monroe Street.

*Funding for Harry Whitehorse’s Badger provided by the City of Madison Engineering, Madison Arts Commission, Madison Community Foundation, Jeffery  and Lawren Kunz, and Ho Chunk Nation.
