Celebrate community engagement and strong neighborhoods at two open houses on Madison’s southwest side on Wednesday, June 24, 5-8 pm. 
 
The event includes the grand opening of the Theresa Terrace Neighborhood Center and an open house celebrating the completion of the Meadowood Shopping Mall project that included a relocated and expanded Meadowridge Library and Meadowood Neighborhood Center and a shared space between the two organizations that includes a community meeting room and a community kitchen.
 
The two events will occur simultaneously, with staggered remarks at each location.  Event line up includes:
 
Theresa Terrace Neighborhood Center, 1409 Theresa Terrace (phone not yet available)

• 5:30 – remarks from Mayor Paul Soglin, Alder Matthew Phair, MMSD Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham, and Theresa Terrace staff
• 6-8 pm – brats, burgers & hot dogs on the grill
• 5-8 pm – face painting, basketball, bag toss and outdoor sports
• 5-8 pm - tours and program information with neighborhood center staff and volunteers

Meadowridge Library (5726 Raymond Road, 608-288-6160) and Meadowood Neighborhood Center (5734 Raymond Road, 608-467-8360)

• 6:30 pm – remarks from Mayor Paul Soglin, Alder Matthew Phair, MMSD Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham, and neighborhood center and library staff
• 5-8 pm – tours, activities, and member registration with staff and volunteers at both locations
• 5-8 pm – fresh baked cookies provided by Friends of Meadowridge Library
• 5-8 pm – arts and crafts, face painting, henna tattoos, and indoor sports at Meadowood Neighborhood Center
• 5-8 pm – Summer Reading Club signup at Meadowridge Library

 
“These openings are the culmination of an incredible partnership between the City, the neighborhoods and the community.  These two neighborhood centers will provide needed services and opportunities to residents of the Southwest side of Madison. I am so pleased that the hard work of staff, volunteers and residents has gotten us to this day,” said Mayor Paul Soglin.
 
The new Theresa Terrace Neighborhood Center was created in response to neighborhood demand.  It is a new center owned by the City of Madison and operated by the Wisconsin Youth Company.  When the doors open on the new neighborhood center in June, Wisconsin Youth Company will provide summer programs to youth of all ages as well as adults in the Theresa Terrace & Hammersley neighborhoods.​
 
The expanded Meadowridge Library features additional space, small meeting rooms, a quiet room with a fireplace, more computers and iPads, and dedicated spaces for children and teens. The expanded Meadowood Neighborhood Center features office space for neighborhood groups, a game room, more space for discussion and study, a computer bank and other amenities.  The shared space between the organizations features a community meeting space that holds 100 people and can be subdivided into two smaller rooms, as well as a community kitchen.  The two organizations will kick off a series of events this summer intended to promote good nutrition and healthy eating.

The Meadowood Neighborhood Center provides a safe, supervised place for youth during after school and evening hours, a place for neighbors to meet and socialize, a place for senior adult programs, and a much needed space for neighborhood and other group meetings and space for MSCR programs such as art, fitness, yoga, after school programs, dance, etc. It is managed by the Madison School & Community Recreation in collaboration with the City of Madison.
