The Madison City Clerk’s Office wants voters to be aware of two changes in election law that will affect voter registration and absentee requests for the September 12 Primary.

Open Registration now closes one week earlier, on the third Wednesday before the Election (Wednesday, August 23). Voters can register only in the City Clerk's Office from August 24 through September 11, or at the polls on Election Day. Voters registering in the City Clerk's Office after August 23 will not be listed on the poll list at their polling place, but will be listed on a supplemental poll list. As always, all voters registering after registration closes must show proof of residence.

The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot by mail has been moved up by one day. Requests to receive an absentee ballot by mail must be received by the City Clerk's Office no later than Thursday, September 7 (the deadline used to be Friday). Voters may still vote absentee in the City Clerk's Office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 8; from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 9; and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, September 11.
